I was born and raised in the Detroit Metro area and transplanted to Southern California in the early 90’s to do production work. I worked my way up through various art department positions before becoming an Art Director in 2001.
I cut my teeth as an Art Director in the resurgence of hidden camera shows in the early to mid-2000s. I learned to create and manage environments, SPFX and teams on the fly, especially on Punk’d, which I Art Directed for five seasons.
Next came interior makeover shows, and I count myself lucky to have worked with and learned from Thom Filicia, a world-class designer, on multiple seasons of multiple shows. This gave me an opportunity to explore interior esthetics and layouts, manage many different types of contractors, and learn how to generate interest in companies to place their products.
The latest wave has been obstacle course shows, most notably American Ninja Warrior and Team Ninja Warrior which I Production Designed for multiple seasons. My responsibilities (other than overseeing the overall look of the show) included scouting different cities for the tours and generating site maps for all departments to use.
Between shows I also do pre-visualizations for projects in development, mainly working with The ATS Team and their production partners.
I enjoy the challenges of this business; all the random skills and knowledge that come from doing new things in different places every day. Even more than that, the best part of this business is the synergy of collaborating with other creative people, above and below the line.
